
Sean Butler, Ph.D.
Dr. Butler is a registered psychologist (#2853) providing treatment for adults and older adolescents with a range of mental health difficulties, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, emotion regulation problems, and grief and loss.
Dr. Butler received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Simon Fraser University and completed his pre-doctoral residency with Vancouver Coastal Health.
Dr. Butler currently provides individual therapy services as part of the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic. He has previously provided individual and group services with the Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health & Addiction, DBT Centre of Vancouver, the Vancouver CBT Centre, the Provincial Adult Tertiary Specialized Eating Disorders Program at St. Paul's Hospital, Kelty's Key Online Therapy Service, and the BC Psychosis Program.

Dr. Butler's clinical practice focuses on the assessment and treatment of mental health difficulties in adults and older adolescents.
Psychodiagnostic assessment typically involves an intake interview where you discuss your life history, your current difficulties and concerns, your strengths, and your goals in treatment. In the interview, your therapist is trying to determine which well-understood clinical difficulties (disorders) match your experiences.
Based on this interview, you and your therapist put together a plan to address some of these concerns in therapy. In many cases, this means working with your therapist directly. In some cases, Dr. Butler may work with you to find the right person to help you with your specific needs by making a referral.
Individual therapy works well for many people with a variety of mental health difficulties. It's important to find a therapist that you trust, that you work well with, and that has experience working with the sort of problems that brought you to therapy. Not every therapist is a good fit for every person.
